Welcome to our web page we hope you enjoy your visit!

We love our German Coolies and believe they can be a valuable working dog as well as a cherished family member.  We are committed to education and furthering our knowledge regarding breeding, training and understanding working dogs. I am a member of the Master Dog Breeders Academy, Dogs NSW and the NSW Sheepdog Workers Association.  I enjoy learning from others and respect experienced breeders and trainers.

BACKGROUND

I grew up on a prominent wool and cropping station in the NSW Riverina. I have worked on large properties in Far Western Qld and NSW with high stock numbers as a stationhand, roustabout and penning up for some of the bigger sheds in NSW.  I have worked for and with drovers and mustering contractors. I have also worked on a dairy cattle stud.

This experience has given me  admiration for what a well trained stock dog can add to any working situation.  This has also shown me the down side of  the treatment of dogs in the pastoral industry often dogs are demed as not a worker it is seldom the dogs fault, more often the handler and his lack of knowledge and experience. No dog can excel at any task without a competent trainer who understands  dogs and stock behavior and is able to learn from his mistakes and take advice from experienced stock workers. A breeder supplies the pup or dog with the natural instinct to work stock it is the trainers responsiblity to that dog to train it and educate it.

GENERAL INFORMATION

We are based in Far Western NSW where the climate is extreme and the ground hard. Coolies are the ideal dog for this country as they are tough and able to endure temperature extremes.

Our dogs are fed on a prey model diet -meaty bones, chicken frames etc - the result from this diet is dogs with a natural sheen to their coats, energy with out being over the top, stamina, endurance, good muscle development and strong bones. They are lean and fit as a working dog should be,  a fat dog cannot sustain a full days work and is endangered from heat stroke and joint injury.

Our pups are whelped and raised inside our home  and we try to show the pups as many different things as we can without compromising their safety before they go to new homes,  Pups experience  horses, goats, poultry,  different ground surfaces etc on a daily basis.

Our dogs are not permitted to enter the goat or horse paddock with out supervision and are taught this from babies. This is an important part of training. It is irresponsible to allow dogs of any age to "play"with livestock and extremley dangerous as well. One well placed kick from a horse or a beast can cause death, injury or discourage future interation with stock. Dogs are always taken to the stock  with a clear purpose and in control and  they are never encouraged to work without supervision and direction. This early training stands them in good stead as they mature and helps ensure that they dont enter  a dangerous situation for themselves and stock.

Pups and young dogs are started in a small yard with quiet stock this encourages a win situation first up. A pup started in a huge paddock cannot see the value of his efforts and may become discouraged as he can not keep up or make it to the lead. This is a sensible  and accepted practice followed by trainers all over the world.

I have had Coolies for over twenty years and love these dogs. What I love about the Coolie is their great temperaments their devotion to their families, and the physical stamina and commitment to stock work

Our commitment to this breed is serious and  believe all Coolies should an even temperament and have natural working instinct. We strive for this in our own dogs.  We also believe that conformation is  very important - form and function go hand in hand.

We are committed to improving and retaining the most important characteristics of the Coolie - excellent temperament and keenness for working. Only the very best of our dogs will be bred from to ensure that the Coolie Breed is represented by dogs of outstanding temperament with a natural herding instinct,as well as being free of any deformities or physical faults. We take the responsibility of breeding very seriously.

We have no problems in culling or  not  using any dog of our breeding or outcross we deem unsuitable for what ever reason. In most cases we follow this up by desexing the animal.
We do not support however the constant rehoming of the same dog and believe dogs should not be expected to adjust to many different homes in their lifetime.

Coolies are devoted to their families and are worthy of a total commitment by the owner.
